Longan

Longan, also known as “Dragon’s Eye” or “Eyeball”, is a small tropical fruit that closely resembles the lychee, both in terms of taste and appearance. It has a jelly-like flesh with a mild flavor resembling mangoes or grapes.

Longan is used the same way as lychees in dessert soups, smoothies, fruit salads, cocktails and sweet-and-sour dishes. But this fruit is much eaten fresh, out-of-hand, and canned in syrup or dried.

Longan is a rich source of many vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. This fruit contains potassium, vitamins B1, B2 and B3 as well as Vitamin C, and is very, very low in sodium. Besides, there are many useful parts of the longan fruit: wood, seeds, rind, fruits and leaves.
